# How do I translate a recipe?

| **Quick answer:** You can translate recipes automatically while importing them by selecting your preferred app language and enabling auto-translation. To translate a recipe already saved in CookBook, open it, tap **Edit**, then use **Vary recipe with AI** and select **Translate recipe**.

# Translate recipes as you import them

CookBook can import recipes in your preferred language.

1. Open the **side menu**.
2. Tap **Settings**.
3. Under **Appearance**, choose your preferred language.
4. Set **Auto-translation** to active or inactive, depending on how you would like CookBook to handle imported recipes.

When auto-translation is active, CookBook can translate imported recipes into your selected language.

When auto-translation is inactive, recipes will remain closer to their original language where possible.

# Translate a recipe already in CookBook

You can use AI to translate a recipe that has already been added to CookBook.

1. Open the **recipe** you want to translate.
2. Tap **Edit**.
3. Tap the **More menu** (three vertical dots floating in the bottom-right corner).
4. Select **Vary recipe with AI**.
5. Select **Translate recipe**.

The language shown in brackets reflects the language currently selected in your CookBook app. For example, if your app language is set to English, the option will appear as **Translate recipe (English)**.
