# What happens when I reach the free limits?

| **Quick answer:** The free tier lets you store **20 recipes**, run **20 smart imports**, and create **2 shopping lists**. When you hit any limit or when a paid subscription expires, CookBook switches to read-only mode for everything above those limits until you choose a new plan.

# Free tier limits

* **20 stored recipes**
* **20 smart imports** (web, socials, OCR scans)
* **2 limited shopping lists** – one General Items list and your most-recent custom list

After that you’ll see a prompt to pick a monthly or yearly plan. Choose **yearly** to start a 14-day free trial; choose **monthly** to begin billing immediately.

# Can I export my data?

Yes. You can export all recipes at any time from **Side menu → Settings → Backup → Backup / export → Format -** even if you’re on the free tier.
