# Where and how are my recipes stored?

| **Quick answer:** Every recipe is saved **locally** on your phone or tablet for offline cooking and also backed up to CookBook’s **encrypted cloud**. That cloud copy keeps all your devices - iOS, Android, and the Web App in sync.

### Mobile apps (iOS & Android)

* **Local copy:** Each recipe, photo, and shopping list is cached on your device, so you can cook without an internet connection.
* **Cloud backup:** The moment you come online, changes upload to CookBook’s secure servers and download to your other devices.

### Web App (desktop & laptop)

* Runs entirely in your browser at [app.cookbookmanager.com](https://app.cookbookmanager.com/).
* Requires an internet connection; no local storage beyond standard browser caching.
* Reads and writes directly to the same encrypted cloud database, so everything stays current.

### Why both local and cloud?

* **Offline cooking:** No Wi-Fi in the kitchen? Your recipes are still there.
* **Data safety:** Even if you lose or replace a device, your entire collection is ready to re-download after you sign in.
* **Instant sync:** Edit on iPhone, view on Android, or print from the Web App - changes appear everywhere in seconds.
