Why?
To enable us to merge items within the shopping list, and display them in a usable format for you when shopping, we need to know what you'd like your ingredient measures displayed in.
CookBook will convert between US Standard, Metric and Imperial.
You will also need to choose which liquid conversion you would like with each measure:
- For US Standard you can choose between cups or fl oz & pints
- For Metric you can choose between cups or litres
- For Imperial you can choose between cups or fl oz & pints
How to change your shopping list conversion:
- Go into your shopping list
- Click on the more menu in the top right
- Tap 'Convert: {Measure}'
- Select your preferred measure; US Standard, Metric, Imperial
- Select your preferred volume measure
- Your shopping list will now display your items in your select measures
Why do cups convert to ml if i select ml as my volume conversion?
Although it sounds strange that a cup converts to fl oz or ml, this is actually correct!
A cup is a volumetric measurement whereas units such as grams are a weighted measurement, this means it's very dependent on how loosely or packed the cup is to accurately convert to a weighted measurement such as grams.
This is why often dry ingredients measured in cups will convert to ml as they are both measured in volume, not in weight.
Currently we do not convert weighted ingredients from cups to grams as these change vastly between the ingredient and the preparation method (grated, cut, sticks, loosely packed, packed, etc.). We are however gathering a list of standard conversions that you'll be able to select and convert between in future.
