Quick answer: The latest CookBook update needs iOS 16.4 or later. Key components we rely on no longer work on iOS 15, and there’s no way to keep an older build running. If your iPhone or iPad can update to iOS 16 or newer, install the update and CookBook will open normally. If your device can’t move past iOS 15, you can still access everything at app.cookbookmanager.com
Why we can’t support iOS 15 any longer
- Essential libraries that power CookBook have dropped iOS 15 compatibility.
- We explored patches and legacy builds, but they crash or fail on iOS versions below 16.4.
- Without those libraries, basic features - logging in, recipe management, cloud sync, etc. will not run.
In short, continuing to ship to iOS versions below iOS 16.4 version isn’t technically possible for CookBook.
Your options & workaround
- Update the device: Go to Settings → General → Software Update. Many models released since 2017 can install iOS 16.4 or newer.
-
Workaround - Use the Web App: Although the native CookBook app installed from the Apple App Store will not work, we have been able to update the web app so that it should function on your device running iOS 15. You can also use the web app an a computer or laptop in Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox.
- On your device, go to app.cookbookmanager.com
- Sign in and your recipes, planner, and shopping lists are all there.
- To add the CookBook web app to your device home screen for quick access, hit share within your browser
- Scroll down to Add to Home Screen
- This will add a direct link to the CookBook web app so when tapped on, will immediately open the CookBook web app on your device.
- Future device: When you move to an iOS 16.4 capable phone or tablet, just install CookBook, sign in, and everything syncs automatically.
