What languages does CookBook support?

Quick answer: CookBook is fully supported in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Polish and Portuguese.

Current language support

CookBook is now available in:

  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Spanish
  • Polish
  • Portuguese

How to change the app language

To change your language in CookBook:

  1. Open CookBook
  2. Open the side menu
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Under Appearance, choose your preferred language

If you do not see the new language options, please update CookBook first from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Can I import recipes in my preferred language?

Yes. CookBook now supports importing recipes in your selected language.

To set this up:

  1. Open the side menu
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Under Appearance, choose your preferred language
  4. Set auto-translation to active or inactive, depending on how you would like CookBook to handle imported recipes

If auto-translation is active, CookBook can help translate imported recipes into your selected language. If auto-translation is inactive, recipes will remain closer to their original language where possible.

What if my language is not supported yet?

If your language is not listed above, it is not currently supported as an app language in CookBook.

You can still use CookBook in one of the supported languages, and you may still be able to import recipes from other languages depending on the recipe source, formatting and content. However, results may vary for unsupported languages, especially for features that rely on understanding ingredients, measurements, quantities and cooking steps.

We know there are many more languages our users would love to see in CookBook, and we hope to continue expanding language support over time.

Why localisation is complex

CookBook does much more than translate menus and buttons. Features such as recipe importing, ingredient recognition, shopping-list organisation, scaling and unit conversion all need to understand recipes properly.

This means CookBook has to recognise ingredients, measurements, quantities, cooking steps and formatting across different languages and recipe styles. We have done a lot of work to support this, and we will continue improving it based on real-world usage and feedback.

Something not quite right?

As this is a major new update, we would love to hear from users if anything does not look right, sounds awkward, or behaves unexpectedly. Language support can vary depending on the recipe source, formatting, ingredients and measurements used, so feedback helps us continue improving CookBook for everyone.
